Pieter Ten Hoopen left for Sweden in 1999 and studied photojournalism at the Nordens Fotoskola. He then worked as a photojournalist for four years and was represented by Moment agency (Sweden) at the time. He has been published in major Swedish newspapers and international magazines and has also taught photojournalism at various Scandinavian schools.
Since 2000, Pieter Ten Hoopen works on many stories all over the world: Colombia, Pakistan, Russia, USA, Egypt, Kenya, Sweden, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan… He is interested in the living conditions of the minorities and documents the complex issues they are facing.
In 2010, he won two World Press Photo Awards in the portraits and daily life categories for “Hungry Horse”.
The Swedish publisher The Bearded Lady has released his two books, Stockholm, in 2010, and Tokyo 7, in 2012.
Pieter Ten Hoopen is getting more and more closer of video, in this way a movie is in progress about his work « Hungry Horse », currently exhibited at Rencontres d\'Arles 2014, and will release in the fall. This series will be gathered in a book whose publishing will be announced soon.
